Bulgaria's center-right GERB leads the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, by the slim margin of 2% ahead of the snap elections on May 12, according to the most recent poll.

It has been conducted by the Mediana polling agency, showing if the election would be held now, 23% of voters would cast a ballot for GERB and 21.4% for BSP.

Mediana Director, Kolio Kolev, explained the melting difference with the illegal spying scandal in the country.

The poll has been conducted between April 19 and 22 through face-to-face interviews in the respondents' homes and has been assigned to Mediana by the Trud (Labor) daily.

Kolev further explained that when it came to hardline supporters BSP even leads in percentages.

According to the poll, in addition to the centrist Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party GERB, and the left-wing BSP, other parties that would win parliamentary seats are the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, the far-right nationalist Ataka and the right-wing Bulgaria for Citizens of former EU Commissioner, Meglena Kuneva.

Another poll, released just one day earlier, showed that GERB leads BSP by 6%.
