Bulgaria's Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) is to elect an administrative director of the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Two candidates are competing for the post - Hristo Dinev and Ivan Petrov - both of them officials of the Sofia-based prosecuting authority.

The appointment of an administrative director of the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office is the second important vote for VSS for the past two weeks after VSS elected last week a Chair of the Plovdiv District Court, dnevnik.bg informs.

The Plovdiv District Court was headed by Sotir Tsatsarov until he was appointed Chief Prosecutor.

The VSS vote on the candidates for administrative director of the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office is important because the prosecuting authority is the second biggest in the country.

The main problems experienced by the employees of the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office are the insufficient work space, the huge workload, and the fact that the prosecutors attend sittings in five different buildings.

According to statistics, prosecutors at the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office deal with twice the workload of the other prosecuting authorities in the country.

The Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office was headed by Alexander Nalbantov until end-January 2013, when the 39-year old prosecutor died after prolonged illness.
