Hot air moving into Bulgaria from Northern Africa has been cited as the cause for an expected rise in temperatures, which are set to reach the top 30C just in days.

The particularly hot weather conditions will set in on Wednesday, when the mercury will hover between 18C and 23C. On Thursday, the mercury will climb to 21C-26C, while on Friday temperatures will be about 23C-28C.

Rainy spells are likely before Wednesday as Bulgaria moves into the periphery of a cyclone, coming from Italy.

The new week will start with sunshine, but on Monday afternoon clouds will emerge, bringing rainy spells throughout western Bulgaria. There will be conditions for thunderstorms, the official weather service warned.

The mercury is set to reach the top 30C on Saturday, the town of Vidin, on the Danube River in Northwestern Bulgaria, and the town of Sandanski  in the southern parts will enjoy the highest temperatures.

A colder spell will set into Bulgaria on Sunday, pushing temperatures down.
