The Bulgarian Socialist Party chose a humorous way to start the campaign for the May 12 early elections by staging a parody of rival center-right GERB party leaders in Sofia's South Park.

At the event, people masked like GERB leader and former Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov, GERB deputy chair and former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and other top GERB politicians mingled with the crowd, asking people for money.

The sketch derives from the Socialists' long-standing criticism of the rule of the GERB cabinet as negatively affecting the well-being of ordinary Bulgarians and small businesses.

What is more, the figure representing Boyko Borisov was dressed in prisoner's clothes.

Thousands have already assembled in the South Park in Bulgarian capital Sofia, where the Socialists' campaign opening will go through the afteroon Saturday.
