Levski Sofia coach Ilian Iliev has resigned following a string of poor performances, according to local media reports.

Darik radio and TV7 have cited Levski sources as saying that Iliev parted with the club late on Thursday.

The resignation comes in the heels of an angry declaration in which Levski supporters urged both players and staff to quit over their “dreadful” performances lately.

The declaration, which referred to Levski’s first-team players as “wretches”, called upon the club to play the rest of the season with his youth squad.

While Bulgaria’s most popular club is currently second in the country’s top division, its recent uninspired draws with the likes of Montana and Pirin Gotse Delchev have drawn much criticism on behalf of the fans.

Disgruntled fans even set up a road blockade and tried to storm the club bus on the trip back to Sofia after the Pirin Gotse Delchev game on Wednesday.
