PES and Bulgarian Socialist Party chair Sergey Stanishev said he will file a complaint with the prosecution against the unknown sources of an allegation he was an agent of Bulgaria's communist State Security.

Saturday an image of what is claimed to be Stanishev's State Security file started circulating in Bulgarian social network and dubious news agency.

"I insist on recalling the public that I have been already checked by the so-called Files Commission while I was running for the last parliament, and before that I was checked in my capacity of Bulgarian PM," said Stanishev.

"I expect the Files Commission to once again state its findings as to whether I have been part of the former State Security," added the socialist leader.

According to Stanishev, the image is forged and is but the latest example of a string of dirty campaigning in the buildup to the May 12 early elections in Bulgaria.

In particular, Stanishev implied that the leader of main rival party GERB and former Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov might be behind the alleged leak.
