Scores of Bulgarians staged a protest rally Friday in front of the Macedonian Embassy in the capital Sofia.
The rally came on the heels of news about the desecration of the memorial in honor of the 15 Bulgarian tourists who drowned in the Ohrid Lake on September 5, 2009.
The memorial plaque has been painted with swastikas and a red "Fascists" sign on the very same day Bulgarian President, Rosen Plevneliev, and Macedonian counterpart, George Ivanov, agreed to hold talks in Ohrid in the near future.
The demonstrators shouted Friday "We Are Not Fascists," and demanded from Skopje to undertake urgent measures to halt the desecration of Bulgarian history and monuments.
The desecration has already been condemned by local authorities in Ohrid and the majority of local people, but the police have not yet found the perpetrators of the outrageous act.
