A Turkish police investigation into women's trafficking ring involving Bulgaria has led to the detention of six suspects in Istanbul, officials announced.

The criminal gang recruited women not only from Bulgaria, but also from Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Georgia, telling them they are about to be hired as assistants to take care of sick people or children.

The women usually worked for about USD 500 a month without any social insurance, no IDs and no right to leave. The younger women were forced to work in nightclubs and bars.

Police said the ring was busted following a tip-off by several ladies who had managed to escape.

Pre-trial proceedings have been launched.
