The deadline for coalitions willing to join the race in Bulgaria's snap general elections in May by submitting documents for registration with the electoral body expires at 5 pm on Monday, April 1.

The same deadline is valid for initiative committees nominating independent candidates. These candidates, on their part, must register with the district electoral committees by April 9.

The deadline for changing a coalition by removing a party from it is 5 pm on April 6.

On Sunday, non-aligned MEP Slavi Binev and controversial businessman and former secret agent Aleksei Petrov announced the formation of a coalition.

The marginal liberal National Movement for Stability and Prosperity and the ethnic National Party Freedom and Dignity also registered as a coalition for the early elections in May.

The center-right government of former PM Boyko Borisov resigned amid massive anti-poverty protests in February, prompting President Rosen Plevneliev to adjourn the Parliament, appoint a caretaker Cabinet and schedule snap elections for May 12.
