Bulgaria's Energy Watchdog Oks Lower Gas Prices

Bulgaria's State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR) announced Thursday new, lower gas prices as of the second quarter of 2013, confirming expectations.

State-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz had requested a decrease of 3.2% in gas rates as of April 1, but the energy watchdog conclusively voted for a 3.89% price drop.

The decrease in prices of natural gas is to result in lower heating and hot water bills, with different heating utilities expected to reduce tariffs by 3.8% - 6.5%.

Prices of natural gas are expected to remain unchanged by end-2013 after the Q2, 2013 price drop.
