Bulgaria has absorbed around BGN 1.3 M in EU funds in the first two months of 2013 under the seven operational programs, according to information of the Finance Ministry.

Citing a report of published on the website of the Finance Ministry, Bulgarian mass-circulation daily Trud notes that the modest result is normal for the beginning of the year, when payments are not particularly large.

Reminding that Bulgaria is to absorb a total of BGN 2.7 B in EU funding by the end of 2013, Trud draws attention to the recommendation of former EU Funds Minister Tomislav Donchev to his successor to redirect payment requests to Brussels as soon as possible.

The newspaper notes that if the invoices are left for the last few months of the year, the reimbursement of funds may be delayed over problems with the EU budget, given the anticipated EUR 18 B budget gap for 2013.
