Campaigning for the upcoming snap elections in Bulgaria will be launched on April 12, exactly 30 days prior to the election day.

In a decision published early on Sunday, the country's Central Electoral Commission has noted that parties, coalitions, initiative committees and MP candidates will only be allowed to carry out their campaigns in Bulgarian.

The deadline for election campaigning is May 10.

President Rosen Plevneliev installed a caretaker government on March 12 after last month's resignation of the center-right GERB government that was triggered by massive protests against poverty, corruption and shockingly high utility bills.

Snap elections are to take place on May 12.

Parties and coalitions, willing to join the race in Bulgaria's snap general election in May, started submitting documents on March 19 for registration with the electoral body. Parties have up to March 27 to collect 7 000 signatures and a deposit of BGN 10 000 which they will get back if they overcome a threshold of 0.1% from the entire vote.

Bulgarians abroad wishing to vote in the May 12 early general election have a deadline of April 11 to file an application to do so.
