Two opposition parties have demanded the dismissal of Romania's Foreign Minister over the country's failure to join the Schengen Agreement.

Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean recently criticized the latest postponement of Romania's Schengen entry, adding that his country may even withdraw its Schengen accession bid.

The Democratic Liberal Party and the Nation's Party have now demanded Corlatean's dismissal, Agerpres says, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.

The vote on the Minister's dismissal is to take place on Tuesday.

The debate on the two EU newcomers' Schengen accession was expectedly postponed for end-2013 during the latest sitting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council.

Until now the two EU newcomers have been denied Schengen membership on several occasions mainly over the opposition of the Netherlands on grounds that, even though they have fulfilled the technical requirements, they cannot secure their borders over lack of progress in the fight against corruption and crime.
