Bulgaria's outgoing government has allocated an extra BGN 4 M for the completion of the project for the Sofia-based National Museum Complex also known as the "Bulgarian Louvre."

The center-right GERB government allocated extra funding to the "Bulgarian Louvre" project and a sum of BGN 805 000 to conservation of immovable cultural heritage at its last regular sitting on Wednesday.

The "Bulgarian Louvre" project is worth BGN 27 M, including EU funding under the Regional Development Operational Program and state funding, according to reports of dnevnik.bg.

The Sofia-based National Museum Complex project is to be completed in July 2013.

The new museum complex is to function as a national cultural center set up to collect, preserve, and exhibit Bulgarian artworks.

The "Bulgarian Louvre" is also expected to turn into a prestigious platform for international exhibitions.

The name of the new museum complex is yet to be picked by the Ministry of Culture.
