Lab Tests Confirm: Horsemeat Lasagna Found in Bulgaria

Lab tests have confirmed that "beef" lasagna sold by a retail chain in Bulgaria contained horsemeat.

Last week, a total of 86 kilograms of mislabeled horsemeat lasagna was pulled off the shelves of a retail chain in the Balkan country.

The lasagna was sent to a German lab for DNA tests, which have now turned out positive, according to the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency.

The mislabeled Lasagna, which was produced by a French company, has been subsequently destroyed.

The Food Safety Agency has probed a total of 30 food products made by Bulgarian producers, finding no horse DNA in them.

In recent weeks meat products for sale in the UK and Europe labelled as beef were found to contain horsemeat, and many products have been taken off the shelves.
