The parliamentary group of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, will vote yes Thursday on the resignation of the government.

The announcement was made before journalists by the group's Chairman, Krasimir Velchev, upon the conclusion of its meeting Wednesday. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, also attended the meeting.

Velchev further stated the decision had been unanimous.

"We called on GERB MPs to go back to the regions that elected them and tell local structures and people that we are a party which has always been guided by positivism, and that we condemn any violence. We also have been and are calling on people who protest to not succumb to provocations," he stated.

Velchev stressed it was unacceptable for GERB to be linked with violence and blood on city streets.

He spoke in the aftermath of the stunning announcement earlier in the day of current PM Boyko Borisov that he was resigning from the post.

The breaking news about Borisov's resignation came in the aftermath of large-scale protests across the country against high utility bills, leading to clashes with riot police with many injuries and vandalism.
