The leader of the marginal conservative Order, Law and Justice party, RZS, Yane Yanev, declared Wednesday he was ready to become the next Prime Minister of the country.

Yanev, who is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee investigating corruption among senior officials, spoke after the stunning announcement current PM Boyko Borisov is resigning from the post.

The Conservative leader has been one of the strongest supporters of Borisov and the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, despite being in opposition earlier and threatening to "fire" the PM in the 2011 presidential election.

On Wednesday Yanev voiced the opinion a caretaker government would not be the best solution, but declined giving other ones on grounds the RZS political council had to make a decision first. He also declined commenting if he would appoint a Cabinet in case he receives the PM post, but underscored his party was the only one in the Parliament that had not been in any government so far.

"We are the only party in Bulgaria, which since it was founded, has had one sole cause – changing the political model, because it is totally wrong; it is depleted, and this post-totalitarian State must become history. We want a Grand General Assembly, new Constitution and a Third Bulgarian State," said he.

Yanev further hinted of some mysterious "trump card," which would be used again after a decision of the political council.

"This is a very strong card that will turn the processes around and will prevent the mafia from rejoicing. The curtain covering the energy mafia will fall. I will meet tomorrow with Chief Prosecutor, Sotir Tsatsarov. I will bring this to an end" he said.

The RZS leader voiced strong criticism about the circumstances surrounding Borisov's resignation, labeling it a temporary victory for the political mafia.

"People are protesting against the system, the model. The time has come for the public to find out who the people behind this civil unrest were and what their goal was. There was a secret deal between the opposition – the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, and the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, - and the power distributors to increase the price of electricity," he disclosed.

Yanev explained Borisov's decision has been a wise move of a solid Statesman and he expected it since last night because the PM was a person who had always shown unique instinct and had taken into account the will of the people.

"Bulgaria needs a Cabinet to assume political responsibility and it needs retribution. The "sacred cows" of the transition period must be eliminated. The police who were arresting demonstrators last night should come to the Parliament and detain a number of its members," the Conservative leader stressed.

The breaking news about Borisov's resignation came in the aftermath of large-scale protests across the country against high utility bills, leading to clashes with riot police with many injuries and vandalism.
