British police have nabbed three men on suspicion of fraud at two meat plants inspected earlier this week by the country's Food Standards Agency.
Police said a man had been arrested at a slaughterhouse in West Yorkshire and two more at a site in Wales, according to the BBC. The arrests were part of the investigation into horsemeat labelled as beef.
In recent weeks meat products for sale in the UK and Europe labelled as beef were found to contain horsemeat, and many products have been taken off the shelves. The scandal has affected at least 12 European countries.
Both firms involved have denied any wrongdoing.
On Thursday, French authorities stated that meat processing company Spanghero may have knowingly sold horsemeat labelled as beef.
Spanghero has denied the allegations, saying it had only ever dealt in meat it believed to be beef.
