Sofia City Court will hold its first hearing on the case for the murder of Yana Krasteva in the Borisova Gradina Park in downtown Sofia in the summer of 2011.

The defendant in the case is Nikolay Rusinov.

The initial suspect for the ghastly crime was Plamen Trifonov, who was arrested and subsequently released over the lack of evidence, Darik radio reminds.

In April 2012, the investigating authorities detained Niklay Rusinov.

At the beginning he was only examined as a witness, after which an analysis by Austrian experts indicated that the DNA material left on the body's victim was his.

Rusinov adamantly denies any involvement in the murder, claiming that he had consensual sex with the victim.

The body of 28-year-old Yana Krasteva was found in the Borisova Gradina Park on July 10, 2011, approximately two days after she had been raped, bludgeoned and strangled to death.

According to the prosecuting authority, the young woman was killed in a particularly atrocious manner.
