US Deputy Secretary of State: Visa Requirements for Bulgarians Will Be Reconsidered

US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns has assured that the visa requirements for Bulgarian citizens will be reconsidered in the light of US legislation aimed at reducing the number of visa rejections.

"As an EU country, Bulgaria hopes for a speedy unification of the visa-free regime for all Member States," Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov told William Burns at a meeting in Washington on Tuesday.

The US Congress is to reconsider initiatives for revising the immigration policy in the next few months, according to reports of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

Mladenv and Burns discussed military and political cooperation between Bulgaria and the US and the upcoming meeting of the international working group on sanctions against the Syrian regime which is to take place in Sofia.

Later on Tuesday, Bulgaria's Foreign Minister met with Antony Blinken, Assistant to the President and Deputy national security policy adviser for President Obama, but the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, after which he headed for Kuwait.
