Proceedings Started against Assaulter on Turkish-Bulgarian Leader

Bulgarian police have already started proceedings against the detained man who assaulted with a handgun Movement for Rights and Freedoms chair Ahmed Dogan at the party congress Saturday.

"The man has been detained for 24 hours and investigations against him have already started," confirmed Sofia police unit head Valeri Yordanov.

The assaulter is a 25-year-old native of Burgas, who is student in Sofia and was present as a delegate at the congress.

Bulgarian Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov confirmed that the arrested man has a previous crime record for possession of drugs, theft and assault.

In the incident, the attacker failed to shoot at Dogan, although he pointed the gun right at his face.

In the ensuing skirmish, the man was badly physically abused by MRF delegates, before security could intervene.

According to comissar Yordanov, the detainee was given a medical check, which confirmed that he had sustained only bruises.
