Two people reportedly died when a helicopter crashed near the River Thames in central London during the morning rush hour on Wednesday, according to reports of the city's police forces.

The helicopter reportedly hit the crane on top of a building in South Lambeth at about 08:00 GMT amid low visibility, according to the BBC News.

Witnesses reported seeing the helicopter plunge into the ground and go up in flames.

According to preliminary reports, the Augusta 109 civilian helicopter, which hit the St George Wharf Tower, carried a pilot and no passengers.

At least two cars are believed to have been damaged by debris from the crash.

Many emergency vehicles were dispatched to the site and the roads in the area were cordoned off.
