Two schools in the Bulgarian capital Sofia were closed and students evacuated Monday after receiving bomb threats at the very first school day for 2013.

One call was placed slightly after 1 pm on the emergency 112 hotline with a youthful voice alerting about a bomb at the 18th school on Pirostka street. The second was for 127th school on Parchevich street in downtown Sofia, prompting evacuations of students.

The school on Pirotska was evacuated 4 times in 2012 after fake alerts for explosives.

Fines for parents of teens placing such calls range between BGN 10 000 and BGN 20 000.

An increased number of bomb threats for shopping centers, courts and schools in Sofia and several other major Bulgarian cities was registered in the last few months.

No traces of explosives have been found in any of these cases.
