Stores in Bulgaria have managed to find a way of evading the EU ban on the sale of incandescent lightbulbs after the end of 2012, according to media reports.

Wednesday Bulgarian Pressa daily writes that retailers are labelling the incandescent bulbs as "lights with a special purpose."

In this way, they are attempting to comply with the EU directive, which allows the sale of the old-fashioned lights for the industry and transportation, and bans them only for domestic use.

Starting 2009, the EU imposed a phased ban on the sales of all kinds of incandescent lightbulbs.

According to Pressa, retailers in Bulgaria are consistently reporting that they have significant quantities in stock.

The EU imposed ban intends the mass introduction of more energy efficient lights for customer use.
