Bulgarian Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov has issued a weird praise for the prices of food products in Bulgaria.

Naydenov told Darik Radio Friday that food prices in Bulgaria are the lowest in the EU, a generally disputable conclusion based on Eurostat data that he recently reported to the Bulgarian Cabinet.

"People say that we [Bulgaria] have the lowest standard [of living in the EU]. Yes, but if we had allowed having both the lowest standard of living, and higher [food] prices, that wouldn't be good," the Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Foods concluded.

He further noted that for a "second consecutive Christmas the prices of food products in Bulgaria are lower compared with the previous week."

"This miracle happened – having lower prices on Christmas in Bulgaria like they do in normal countries. That happened not only with food but with the prices of the other things that we seek to buy as presents. The prices were also lower for Easter. If that is an indication of whether we have become Europeans, we definitely have," Naydenov said.
