Bulgarian Ethnic Turkish Party To Bring No-Confidence Motion against GERB Govt

Bulgarian ethnic Turkish party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) will start preparing a no-confidence vote against the center-right GERB government after the New Year holidays, according to Lyutvi Mestan, Deputy Chair of DPS.

In a Thursday interview for the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), Mestan made clear that the no-confidence motion would be base on the overall policy of the GERB government.

He insisted that the no-confidence vote had become inevitable after GERB had shown that it "had no intention of implementing the recommendations of the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE) for guaranteeing a fair and transparent election process through a radically amended Election Code."

The Deputy Chair of DPS claimed that the center-right ruling party had lost its right to a second term in office and would be replaced by a coalition government "of a yet unknown party format" after the 2013 parliamentary elections.

He suggested that the new government would not necessarily be a coalition government in the traditional sense of the word and would include more political parties.

"We are talking about a government of national priorities which consists of Ministers and professionals and experts and is backed by broad political consensus," Metsan added.
