Cable Operators Fall Out with Major Bulgarian TV Network

A number of cable TV operators across Bulgaria will stop transmitting the programs of national private bTV Media Group due to a contract breach.

This announcement covers all 21 members of the Bulgarian Association of Cable Communication Operators (BACCO).

The development comes after bTV and TV7 requested major cable operator Bulsatcom to stop delivering their programs on its network.

BACCO responded by saying that this in effect unilateraly terminates the contract between bTV and the networks, and it would be illegal for cable operators to continue airing the programs.

"The compulsory package of all 6 bTV channels without options for buying rights on one or several of them, as well as new, unfulfillable conditions and now transparent fee with clear price-formation principles, are the reasons for the dispute," says BACCO.

On its part, bTV has accused Bulsatcom of continually breaching their contract by failing to pay dues and quoting a lower than real number of users to reduce fees.
