2 Strong Quakes Jolt California, Mexico Coast
World | December 14, 2012, Friday // 14:56| viewsTwo strong earthquakes have struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of southern California and Mexico, according to the US Geological Survey.
The first quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4, was recorded at 2:36 a.m. (1036 GMT) Friday, 163 miles (262 kilometers) south southwest of the California city of Avalon and 167 miles west southwest of Rosarito, Mexico.
Moments later, a second quake, measuring 6.1, struck 88 miles (142 kilometers) southwest of Avalon, according to the USGS. Both quakes were recorded at relatively shallow depths.
No tsunami warning was issued.
