Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has stated that he is not engaged in a conflict with President Rosen Plevneliev.

On Monday, Tsvetanov reacted quite strongly to a comment made by Plevneliev regarding the ongoing Chief Prosecutor battle.

The President recently hinted that efforts would have to be renewed for the election of a Chief Prosecutor if none of the current candidates are deemed appropriate. Tsvetanov reacted by declaring that "nothing depends on the President", albeit he is "allowed to say anything."

On Tuesday, Tvsetanov clarified that he did not mean to criticize Plevneliev and was simply making a comment.

The Interior Minister further said that Plevneliev, who was backed by his center-right GERB party in the 2011 elections, is doing a good job in unifying the nation.

Tsvetanov also told the Bulgarian National Radio that GERB is now willing to back a new constitutional judge nominee suggested by the Union of Democratic Forces party.
