Bulgarian PM to Pay PR Visit to Unique Thracian Treasure

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is to see the unique gold Thracian treasure recently discovered by archaeologists in the famous Sveshtari tomb, the Bulgarian government's press office has announced.

Borisov will visit the National Archaeological Museum in Sofia where the treasure is currently placed. He will be accompanied by Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov, Finance Minister Simeon Djankov and Education Minister Sergey Ignatov.

On Thursday,a team of researchers led by one of the most prominent Bulgarian experts on Thracian archaeology, Prof. Diana Gergova discovered fragments of a wooden box, containing charred bones and ashes, along with a number of extremely well-preserved golden objects, dated from the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 3rd century B. C..

The objects include four spiral gold bracelets, and a number of intricate applications like one which shows the head of a female goddess adorned with beads, applications on horse riding gear and a forehead covering in the shape of a horse head with a base shaped like a lion head.

The expedition that made the recent exciting discovery was not financed by the Bulgarian state.
