With the final makeup of the US Congress still unclear as of Wednesday morning, Republicans appear to have failed to grab the Senate, while Democrats have failed to make inroads in the House.

Democrats have secured at least 52 seats to Republicans' 44 in the Senate, while Republicans in the House have at least 224 seats and Democrats at least 171.

The political polarity between the two houses of Congress stands to grow all the more stark, with the Senate poised to be more liberal and Republicans entrenched in the House.

With President Obama securing a second term Tuesday night, he will continue to face a divided Congress for at least the next two years, Fox News observes.
