Incumbent US President, Democrat Barack Obama, and Republican challenger Mitt Romney have tied the key swing state of Virginia with 49% each, according to a CNN exit poll.

Virginia is one of the absolutely key battleground states that are expected to decide the next US President.

Reports say a surprisingly high turnout in Virginia may tip the scales in Obama's favor but no predictions have been made available as of 7 pm ET (2 am EET on Wednesday).

Another exit poll from the network says Obama leads Romney by 51% to 48% in Ohio, a state that could hold the key to the White House.
