A Bulgarian man who took a picture of three police officers sleeping in a patrol car in the city of Varna has been invited for a "discussion" by the Bulgarian Interior Ministry.

The man, Boyan Maximov, has rejected the invitation scheduled for 9:30 am on Saturday after consulting with his lawyer. He received the invitation around 9:00 pm on Friday.

Maximov took a picture of 3 police officers, apparently asleep in the patrol car, and spread it on social networks and later on TV, in what he says was a protest against the laziness and the incompetence of Bulgarian police.

As a result, Maximov was reportedly harassed by police authorities. , with police constantly stopping him and fining him on petty grounds such as not carrying an ID card when taking the trash out or walking his dog without a leash.

Commenting on the case, Varna police spokesperson Kalina Pencheva lashed out at Maximov, calling him a "peasant fool who has nothing to do and is bored." Her outrageous remark prompted Prime Minister Boyko Borisov to demand her dismissal on Thursday.

However, Pencheva is yet to be fired. It also emerged that Borisov is the godparent of her son.
