A Bulgarian man has threatened to kill Prime Minister Boyko Borisov's sister in a bid to draw attention to his family's financial struggles.

62-year-old Yavor Kashukeev from the Southern town of Kyustendil has called the 112 emergency hotline, threatening an assassination attempt on Borisov's sister, Krasimira Ivanova.

Kashukeev, a former mayor of the village of Shatrovo, has been detained in custody for 24 hours, local media inform.

Kashukeev's wife, Katya, has explained that his family is barely surviving, her salary being garnished due to a credit. The family is now forced to live with a mere BGN 20 – 30 a month.

"That's why my husband decided to make a desperate attempt to draw attention to us," she said.
