As crude oil plummeted to a three-month low on international markets, prices of gasoline and diesel at Bulgarian filling stations registered substantial decreases, backtracking from the psychological threshold of BGN 3 per liter.

Starting Thursday, the Bulgarian arm of Russian energy giant Lukoil announced a new reduction in fuel prices, with gasoline A95 settling at around BGN 2.61 per liter and diesel dropping to BGN 2.59 per liter.

Over the past month, prices of gasoline A95 fell by BGN 0.11 per liter, while diesel prices dropped by BGN 0.07 per liter.

On an EU scale, despite the latest reduction in retail gasoline prices in Bulgaria, Romania still offers cheaper gasoline, with gasoline A95 selling at BGN 2.52 per liter on Wednesday.

After the latest price update, Bulgaria has the second cheapest gasoline in the EU after Romania.

Diesel is cheaper in Bulgaria than in Romania, the Romanian price tag being EUR 1.323 per liter.

Luxembourg, however, offers cheaper diesel than Bulgaria, the price being EUR 1.293 per liter, according to energy news portal energy.eu.

Gasoline prices in Bulgaria register an improvement, given that gasoline was cheaper in three EU member states, Malta, Estonia, and Romania, at the beginning of October.

The positive development is attributed to the reduction of the profit margin added to the retail price of gasoline from 20% at the beginning of October to 17.2% on Wednesday.
