The Cabinet of the center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party released from the post Wednesday Regional Governor of Varna, Dancho Simeonov.

The government press office informs Simeonov will be replaced by Kosta Bazitov.

Bazitov was born in 1952. He has a bachelor's degree in Bulgarian Philology from the University in the second largest city of Plovdiv and a master's degree in organization and management of high school education from the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski." Bazitov has worked for many years as a teacher, and later as Head of the Education, Youth Activities and Sports Directorate at the Varna City Hall. He was a Deputy Mayor of Varna since 2007.

The order, signed Wednesday by Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, also releases from duty Simeonov's Deputies, Slavcho Slavov and Nikolay Nyagolov. Plamen Manushev has been appointed at one of the two freed posts.

The reasons for the surprising reshuffle remain unknown, but since GERB took office in 2009 and appointed Simeonov, his name was tangled in several controversies, particularly signing the project for securing a slope in the Black Sea city's landmark, the Maritime Garden, which is deemed as giving the green light to the controversial "Alley One" project.
