An Armenian An-12 airliner on its way to Syria's Aleppo landed for a security check at the Erzurum Airport in Eastern Turkey on Monday.

The jet was on its way from the Yerevan to Aleppo with a cargo of humanitarian aid, CNN-Turk has reported, as cited by RIA Novosti.

The Turkish government was reportedly informed of the nature of the cargo but decided to search the plane anyway.

Armenian foreign ministry spokesman Tigran Balaian has stated that the landing was pre-planned.

Last week, Turkey grounded the Damascus-bound flight from Moscow in Ankara, saying it had grounds to believe the plane transported weapons for the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
