Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has said that the issue of Syrian refugees is high on the agenda of the country.

Speaking Wednesday at a forum on TV digitalization, he said that the wave of refugees was growing, yet he assured that the institutions were closely following the processes.

Bulgaria's head of state noted that the issue of refugees would be a key point on the agenda of his upcoming visit to Turkey in about two months' time.

"Bulgaria will address the issue because we see a potential serious threat that Syrian refugees may flood into the country. We keep in constant touch with our colleagues from Europe" he added.

Plevneliev explained that the number of Syrian refugees was still quite small but the rising trend was worrying.

Following a Sunday meeting between Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and his Turkish counterpart Idris Naim Shahin, it was announced that joint patrols could be set up to guard the Bulgarian-Turkish border.

The two discussed proposals for setting up joint patrols on the common border and a joint Contact Center for Police and Customs Cooperation.
