The right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) party has called upon the country's government to cancel all negotiations for the potential renewal of the abandoned Belene Nucleap Power Plant project.

The Bulgarian Parliament should not jeopardize its authority by taking part in negotiations with a suspicious investor, DSB leader Ivan Kostov has told local media.

The Bulgarian centrist-right GERB government scrapped the Belene NPP project earlier in 2012, declaring it economically unfeasible.

"The project is already dead, but since it was not buried, attempts are being made to resurrect it as a vampire. That should not be allowed. The project should be buried once and for all," DSB MP Ivan Ivanov commented on Monday, as cited by dnevnik.bg.

Kostov had already slammed GERB for holding talks with the mysterious Belene investor that emerged last week, saying the ruling party was "negotiating with a UFO."

Last week, the largely unknown Delaware-registered Global Power Consortium expressed interest in taking over the project to install two 1,000 megawatt nuclear reactors at the Danube River town of Belene and build it without state funds or guarantees.

The companies behind the consortium are yet unknown.

The consortium brings together the US investment fund Quantum Group, two large strategic investors, a big US bank and one operator, according to Bogomil Manchev, owner of "Risk Engineering" company and consultant for the alleged US investors for the project.
