Financing in the amount of BGN 1 M from the EU Operational Program Administrative Capacity will be used for improving the capacity of Bulgarian investigators.

The news was reported Friday by Monika Dimitrova-Beecher, Director and Head of the Managing Authority of the Administrative Capacity Operational Program (OPAC) at the Bulgarian Ministry of Finance.

The procedure is unique and will offer training opportunities for police investigators and all policemen at the Interior Ministry authorized to carry out investigative activities. The training will help conduct legal actions in the course of the probes, the collection of sound evidence, and will increase the speed and efficiency of pre-trial procedures as a condition to have a fast and fair penal process, corresponding to the expectations of the public.

The public tender procedure closes on October 10, 2012. The Interior Ministry is the only allowed bidder since it would be the sole beneficiary. The minimum value of the projects is BGN 100 000, while the entire amount of BGN 1 M can go to one top-notch project.

The project is to be implemented in the course of 18 months.

Statistics show a trend of increasing number of cases investigated by the police, prompting the need of training of more police officers, including in crime prevention and counterterrorism, according to the OPAC Head.
