A trial on terrorism charges against two Bulgarians, four Russians and one Moldovan has been launched in the Czech Republic.

The defendants face 10 years behind bars if proven guilty, the Bulgarian Focus news agency informs, citing Russian media.

The suspects were arrested in May 2011 by a special task force of the Czech police. They are said to be part of an organized extremist group with ties with the Northern Caucasus region.

They are charged as accessory to terrorist activities, supplying extremists with fake documents, weapons and explosives. The group had been operating in several countries.
