Bulgaria Sends 13th Ranger Company to Afghanistan's Kandahar

Bulgaria's military sent Tuesday its 13th company of troops to guard the internal zone of the Kandahar Airport in Afghanistan as part of the NATO-led ISAF forces.

The ceremony for the dispatching of the 13th Bulgarian unit to guard the military airport in Kandahar took place in the central Bulgarian town of Kazanlak.

It was led by Bulgaria's Head of Defense Simeon Simeonov; the company is commanded by maj. Petko Tsanev.

The almost 300 rangers in Bulgaria's 13th company in Afghanistan's Kandahar come from the 61st mechanized brigade of the Bulgarian Army.

Bulgaria has about 600 troops stationed in Afghanistan as part of ISAF, guarding the airports in Kandahar and Kabul.
