US Reaffirms Commitment to Pacific Interests

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has reiterated her country's commitment to security in the Pacific Area at the yearly meeting of South Pacific leaders Saturday.

This comes at a time when territorial tensions are growing between China and smaller neighbors to the south-east.

"The USA will not abandon its long tradition of guarding sea roads in the region," stated Clinton.

The Pacific Islands Forum unites 16 countries from the region, including Australia, New Zealand and the small Pacific island countries.
