The opposition Free Syrian Army has issued a statement saying it is willing to target civilian airplanes, which it believes carry support for embattled President Bashar Al-Assad.

The measure is set to be effective starting Monday, according to the armed rebels' Facebook page.

According to them, the Syrian government uses civilian planes to deliever military equipment from Russia, Iran, Iraq and Lebanon.

Many international companies have already suspended flights to Damascus due to a too small passenger flow.

At the same time, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov said it is "naive" to believe that the Syrian government must be the first to cease fire in the bloody civil war.

According to Lavrov, responsible international actors should press both sides to the conflict to lay down weapons for a peaceful resolution.
