Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border check point on the Bulgarian-Turkish border have caught nearly 33 kg of heroin.

The illegal drug has been found through the risk analysis method. It has been located in a minivan with Serbian registration, traveling from Turkey to Serbia.

The 60 packages have been discovered under the gas tank. The test of the substance revealed it was heroin. The value is assessed at over BGN 4 M.

The driver, a Serbian national, had made written confessions, saying he had been transporting the heroin on the promise he would be paid EUR 10 000 and he needed the money for medical treatment.

The Haskovo District Prosecution Office has launched a probe and pre-trial proceedings.
