A Bulgarian living in Maryland was sentenced Friday to four years of imprisonment for participating in an ATM skimming scheme on the territory of the state.
According to reports of the Caroll County Times daily, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), Stoycho Lazarov, 40, who had been living in Millersville, was sentenced for bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.
He drained over USD 180 000 from ATMs in Westminster and Finksburg using stolen debit and credit card accounts.
Lazarov and his accomplices stole from more than 167 people in the period September 2009 - November 2010, according to a media statement of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Baltimore.
Lazarov is said to have entered the United States illegally sometime before September 2000 and used fake immigration documents to obtain a social security card.
