A pack of wolves has started to harass a Bulgarian village in the Rhodope Mountains with daring attacks on livestock.

The wolves have been decimating sheep herds in the village of Polyana, Rudozem Municipality, in the southern Rhodopes for a week, the Bulgarian National Radio reported Thursday.

In just a week, the pack has killed and eaten over 70 sheep from local herds worth more than BGN 20 000.

Rudozem Mayor Rumen Pehlivanov has asked the central government to help organize a manhunt to tackle the aggressive wolf pack.

He has also promised aid to Krasimir Demirev, the local owner of most of the sheep eaten by the wolves.
