The Bulgarian Football Union is to probe Levski Sofia regarding some of its fans' outrageous behavior towards Guinea Bissau international Basile de Carvalho.

The striker was racially abused by home "supporters" and stewards after a league match against Botev Plovdiv in Sofia on Sunday.

Some of the Sofia-based team's fans directed racial chants, made monkey noises and threw a banana at De Carvalho after the game.

The Bulgarian Football Union's disciplinary committee discussed the accident on Tuesday, according to local media. However, it could not reach a decision on the case, since the match delegate failed to report it.

The disciplinary commission is to gather evidence over the next few days.

Levski faces a BGN 37 500 fine and will probably have to play its next home game away.

In an official declaration, Levski officials and players, as well as the team's national fan club, have condemned the group of "supporters" for their racist abuse.

"We support Basile and we're convinced that the color of skin doesn't matter for our fans," the declaration says.
