Bulgaria's Interior Ministry, which is the "wealthiest" in the country, boasting a budget of BGN 1 B, is again voicing pleas for financial assistance.

The Bulgarian Sega (Now) daily has published information, citing a draft decree of the Council of Ministers, where Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, is asking funds to pay off maintenance debts.

In his report, Tsvetanov explains that the money will be sued for fuel, lubricant oil, communication and postal services, heating, expert reports, electric and hot water bills and uniforms. He stresses that the slating of the funds will bring to an end late fee charges and will secure regular deliveries under the signed contracts.

Tsvetanov notes that the request is not within the frame of the approved State Budget expenses for 2012, but fails to list the companies the Ministry is indebted to.

Sega remind that this is not the first such request on the part of the Minister.

At the beginning of December 2011, the cabinet slated BGN 6.5 M for the Interior Ministry on the same grounds of avoiding late fees. The institution received earlier another BGN 6 M to be spent on heating for the refugee camps in Busmantsi and Lyubimets and for gasoline for police cars and fire trucks.

Also in 2011, BGN 15 M were slated for outstanding debts, for purchasing new counter-terrorism technology and for creating a new unit working on high-profile organized crime cases.
