Bulgaria's center-right GERB cabinet has consistently been leading a policy of supporting companies with dominant market position, stated former EU commissioner Meglena Kuneva.

"The recent 'freeze' of prices of key food products is a cynical social experiment that is bound to have hefty effects on all Bulgarians," said Kuneva at a press-conference of her newly founded Bulgaria for Citizens party.

According to the former EU commissioner for consumer rights, the move is bound to push out of business a number of small and medium producers and merachants, as well as to a decrease in the quality of foods, higher unemployment, and subsequent raise in food prices.

A number of opposition political parties have also stood up against the freeze in food prices announced last week by Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture Miroslav Naydenov.

The declaration announced by Bulgaria for Citizens Tuesday also recalled a string of moves on the part of PM Boyko Borisov's cabinet apparently supporting largest oil producer in Bulgaria and allegedly resulting in a 13% raise of fuel prices.
